Important Bathroom Tile Cleaning Tips

Knowing how to clean bathroom tiles is an important part of home maintenance. After all, nothing can beat entering a clean bathroom. But sometimes creating a clean bathroom can feel like an overwhelming task, especially when it comes to tile and grout.

In this article, we will go through some simple yet effective tips to clean and shine your bathroom tiles instead of doing complete bathroom renovation.

What Type of Bathroom Tiles You Have?

Before using any cleaning method, make sure to know about the type of bathroom tiles you have. This is because some tiles are not compatible with certain cleaning products. While ceramic and porcelain tiles can be cleaned with most solutions and cleaning products, marble are prone to damage when used acids like lemon and vinegar, as well as abrasive fabrics.

Therefore, it is important to know the type of bathroom tile and choose the cleaning product or solution accordingly.

How to Clean Bathroom Tiles

First of all, make sure to run a hot shower for a few minutes before cleaning. It can open up the pores of materials like ceramic tiles, helping you remove more of the dirt and achieve a cleaner finish.

Clean grouting first before moving to the tiles. The build-up from the grouting can get onto the tiles, so you can remove it all afterward.

Make sure to open the windows if you are using a heavier chemical cleaner to reduce the fumes.

How to Clean Marble Tiles

Like we have said before, precautions are required for marble tiles cleaning. Use water and soft microfiber cloth to clean marble tiles. Don’t use abrasive material or scrubber. To remove the dirt build-up, you can use a gentle soap mixed with water and a soft cloth.

To remove a stain, spray it with water followed by the application of a thick baking soda paste. Let the solution sit for 24 hours. Use a damp cloth to wipe off the solution and repeat if the stain is still there.

Cleaning Bathroom Tiles with Lemon

Unlike marble tiles, ceramic and porcelain tiles can be cleaned with most cleaning products and solutions.

Lemon is a tried and test cleaning solutions, thanks to its acidic properties. All you need to pour lemon juice into a spray bottle and then spritz it onto tiles. Afterward, clean it with a sponge or damp cloth. Alternatively, soak a cloth directly in lemon juice before wiping the tiles, and then wash it off with warm water.

Cleaning Bathroom Tiles with Vinegar

White vinegar comes with the power of disinfectant and cleaner. Mix white vinegar and water in an equal ratio in a spray bottle, then spritz onto tiles and use a damp cloth to wipe it off. Or you can soak a soft cloth like a microfiber cloth in the mixture, wipe the tiles, and then wash it off with warm water.

Cleaning Bathroom Tiles with Baking Soda

Baking soda or bicarbonate is a powerful tile cleaner. It can help you remove stubborn stains. Mix a half cup of baking soda, one tbsp. of liquid dish soap and ¼ of hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle. Spritz the mixture on the bathroom tiles. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Then, rinse off the tiles with a damp sponge or rag.

Cleaning Bathroom Tiles with Bleach

Mix 5 parts of bleach with 15 parts of water to create a solution in a spray bottle. Spritz it onto the bathroom tiles. Rinse the tiles with a cloth dampened with warm water.

Make sure to open the door and windows to minimize the fumes caused by bleach. Wear thick rubber cleaning gloves as bleach can irritate the skin.
